Maternity leave is almost over

As unbelievable as it is my maternity leave is coming to an end and the prospect of returning to work is indeed a grim one. I can’t get over how quickly the time has passed and our tiny little Tobin is now seven and a half months old and anything but tiny!

I have a few weeks left before I start back at the office and I have been fortunate in a number of ways really. The fact that I have been able to take so long off is a blessing, I have friend’s that had to return months ago despite our babies only being three weeks apart so I am very grateful for that. I’m also lucky that I am working afternoons and get a day off in the week so I don’t feel too bad about leaving Tobin, at least its not full days or full time.

I think all of the arrangements have been made, Grannie is ready and waiting for Tobin’s arrival two afternoons a week and we are visiting the nursery over the next few weeks to discuss Tobin’s routine and see how he gets on. I really hope he’ll enjoy the variety, so far he has been fine at Grannie’s and liked all of the new toys at nursery and he is fascinated with other children so I think he’ll have a ball.

Solid food is going down very well with Tobin and he is getting to grips with stage 2 food and particularly enjoys spaghetti bolognese which I must admit smells gorgeous but is a bit bland for my liking. I am making his puddings which are mainly fruit puree’s but he does have back up jars for ease if we’re having a busy day or aren’t near a microwave to defrost my pud’s. I have made some veg meals for him with varying amounts of success, I think he’ll get on better with them now he’s eating lumpier stuff as I’m not the greatest cook in the world and seem to have inherited my Mother’s inability to mash things properly!

Thumbs up for real nappies!

Things seem to have settled down nicely now, the bedtime routine is still solid and I can cope with half past six starts if need be, it’s no bother when you wake up to a smiling happy baby. I just hope that we can settle into a routine fairly quickly once I’m working again, I’m sure we will and I’m glad I still have my mornings with Tobin and my day off not to mention the millions of holidays I’ve got to use.
